Between 1996 and 1998, I worked in the foundry of the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, the only science center in the United States with a working foundry. During that time, I mad many Klingon-related items, medals, pins and weapons using a process called Green Sand Castings. Most of the items were made from aluminum but I did occasionally work in bronze.
However, in 1998, a new manager took control. She and I didn't get along with each other. I think I intimidated her with my competence. (I knew science and she did not.) Eventually, we came into conflict once too often and I was fired.
I own a new home and have a place in back where I want to build a workshop and foundry so that I can begin casting again. It will take a lot of time and a big chunk of money but I hope that someday I will be a foundryman again.
